Overview
TLR8 antisense RNA 1 (TLR8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the region opposite the TLR8 gene. As a lncRNA, TLR8-AS1 does not encode a protein but may regulate the expression of TLR8 or act in the control of immune responses, inflammation, and possibly other physiological or disease processes. While the protein TLR8 itself is a well-studied receptor involved in innate immune sensing of RNA, TLR8-AS1 represents a regulatory, non-coding genetic element with emerging interest in immunology and inflammation research. There is no substantial evidence that it is a direct therapeutic target, nor that existing drugs modulate its activity, although its expression may be relevant for future biomarker or therapeutic strategies[4].
