TM4SF1 antisense RNA 1 (TM4SF1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the TM4SF1 locus on chromosome 3. It does not encode protein but interacts with multiple cellular proteins, including Pur-α and YB-1. TM4SF1-AS1 is found predominantly in the cytoplasm, where it can inhibit apoptosis by promoting stress granule formation in cancer cells and activating interferon-related signaling. Its expression is upregulated in several cancers, suggesting oncogenic functions and a role in tumorigenesis. Upregulation of TM4SF1-AS1 may serve as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for certain cancers, and the molecule is being explored as a potential novel therapeutic target in oncology.
