Overview

TMCC1 divergent transcript (TMCC1-DT) is an annotated long non-coding RNA gene in Homo sapiens, located on chromosome 3[4][10][13]. It is also referred to as TMCC1 antisense RNA 1 (head to head) or TMCC1-AS1[1][7]. TMCC1-DT does not encode a protein but is classified as a lncRNA, potentially involved in transcriptional regulation and other cellular processes typical of non-coding RNAs[15]. Some studies have described associations between TMCC1-DT and hepatocellular carcinoma, indicating a possible role in cancer biology[15]. TMCC1-DT should not be confused with the protein-coding gene Transmembrane and coiled-coil domain family 1 (TMCC1), which encodes an integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum implicated in ER organization and interaction with ribosomal proteins[2][3][5][8][9][14][16]. TMCC1-DT is a legitimate transcript with established gene models and aliases, but specific mechanistic, therapeutic, and biomarker information is limited in the current literature. Note: If you are seeking information on the TMCC1 protein or Transmembrane and coiled-coil domain family 1, which is a rough ER membrane protein, refer to TMCC1 (not TMCC1-DT) for receptor-like functions, molecular interactions, and potential druggable mechanisms[2][3][5][6][8][9][14][16].
