Overview

TMCO1 antisense RNA 1 (TMCO1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the TMCO1 locus, located on chromosome 1 and approximately 2,148 bp in length[5][2]. It is significantly overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and correlates with indicators such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level, vascular invasion, tumor stage, and tumor differentiation[2][4]. Elevated TMCO1-AS1 expression is associated with poor overall survival and recurrence-free survival in HCC, making it a potential prognostic marker in this cancer[2][4]. However, its precise biological function and molecular mechanisms are not well characterized, and its role appears limited to prognostic indication rather than direct therapeutic targeting at present[2][4][5]. TMCO1-AS1 is not a protein or a canonical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather a non-coding RNA that may play a regulatory role in gene expression[5]. It has been proposed as a biomarker for prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma and possibly other tumors, with no current evidence of drugs targeting TMCO1-AS1 directly or established mechanisms of action concerning therapeutic interventions[2][5].
