Overview

TMEM108 antisense RNA 1 (TMEM108-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the TMEM108 gene locus in the human genome[2][4][5][10]. While the biological role of TMEM108-AS1 itself has not yet been specifically elucidated in public databases, antisense lncRNAs are known to modulate the expression of their sense gene counterparts (in this case, TMEM108) by various mechanisms, including transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, and direct RNA–RNA interactions, typically in a cis-acting manner[3][9]. There is currently no evidence that TMEM108-AS1 is a direct therapeutic target, a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar actionable protein, nor does it have recognized interacting drugs or biomarker use at this time. Its relevance to disease is unknown due to the lack of direct studies or annotations, though its sense gene TMEM108 is linked to nervous system development and psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia[1][7], and antisense lncRNAs in general have been reported as players in neurodegenerative diseases, imprinting, and cancer[3][9]. TMEM108-AS1 is cataloged in major gene and ncRNA databases but without detailed functional annotation or disease curation evidence[2][4][5][10]. No notable safety concerns, therapeutic challenges, or clinical relevance are described for TMEM108-AS1 based on current search results.
