Overview

TMEM132E divergent transcript (TMEM132E-DT), also known as C17orf102 and FLJ44815, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located near the TMEM132E protein-coding gene on chromosome 17. According to the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee, divergent transcripts are lncRNAs found within 300-500 nucleotides of a protein-coding gene on the opposite strand, often with unclear function[5][7]. TMEM132E-DT is not known to encode a functional protein and is classified as an uncharacterized RNA gene[5][10]. There is currently no direct evidence to suggest that TMEM132E-DT acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical therapeutic target class, and no interacting drugs or established mechanisms of action have been described in the literature[5][10][11]. It has been weakly associated with Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy, but its functional role, mechanisms, or biomarker utility have not been established[5]. Therefore, TMEM132E-DT is best considered as a non-protein-coding transcript with unknown biological function and limited, if any, disease association.
