Overview

TMEM139 antisense RNA 1 (TMEM139-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 7. As an antisense RNA, it is not believed to encode a functional protein. Instead, it likely plays a role in regulating the expression of its overlapping or nearby sense gene(s), possibly TMEM139, through RNA-RNA, RNA-DNA, or RNA-protein interactions that modulate transcription, mRNA stability, or epigenetic states[1][3][5][7]. Antisense lncRNAs in general can control gene expression at multiple levels, for example, by interfering with transcription, affecting mRNA stability, or recruiting chromatin modifiers for epigenetic regulation[2][9]. However, there1 is currently no direct evidence or published data specifying a unique functional or disease role for TMEM139-AS1 or associating it with human pathology, nor are there known therapeutic drugs or biomarker applications involving this RNA. As such, it is not considered a defined therapeutic target (i.e., not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.)[5][7]. The reference synonym AC073342.1 is provided in genome resource databases as an alternative name[7]. Summary: - TMEM139-AS1 is a non-coding, antisense long RNA gene with currently unknown specific biological or disease function. - There is no data associating TMEM139-AS1 with drugs, mechanism of action, or use as a biomarker. - It is not a therapeutic target in the conventional sense.
