TMEM44 antisense RNA 1 (TMEM44-AS1) is a **long non-coding RNA** (lncRNA) that is transcribed antisense to the TMEM44 gene. It is not a protein-coding gene, but rather a non-coding regulatory RNA. TMEM44-AS1 has been shown to be **overexpressed in multiple cancer types**, including glioma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and gastric cancer, where it acts as an **oncogene**. Mechanistically, TMEM44-AS1 influences cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and treatment resistance.
