Overview

TMEM92 antisense RNA 1 (TMEM92-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand at the TMEM92 locus. It is implicated as an oncogenic lncRNA in gastric cancer, where it is significantly overexpressed in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues. High levels of TMEM92-AS1 are correlated with poor patient outcomes. Functionally, TMEM92-AS1 promotes proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells, as well as tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, it acts by binding the transcription factor YBX1, facilitating the upregulation of CCL5, a chemokine involved in tumor progression and immune modulation. TMEM92-AS1 also associates with changes in peripheral leukocyte counts, suggesting a role in modifying the tumor immune microenvironment. The transcript is specific for lncRNA function and does not encode a protein, classifying it among lncRNA regulators of gene expression in cancer[1][4].
