Overview

TNK2 antisense RNA 1 (TNK2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the TNK2 gene. It does not encode a protein but can regulate the expression of the TNK2 gene or coordinate with other regulatory processes. Antisense transcripts are recognized for their roles in post-transcriptional regulation via formation of RNA:RNA duplexes, masking, modulation of sense transcript stability, and impacting chromatin structure at associated gene loci. Although some antisense transcripts have been implicated in cancer and other diseases through epigenetic regulation of gene expression, TNK2-AS1 itself does not appear to be an established therapeutic target or drug receptor, and no current drugs or biomarkers are associated with it. There is also no evidence of direct safety concerns or therapeutic challenges for TNK2-AS1.
