Overview
Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) is a pattern recognition receptor that detects bacterial flagellin, activating innate immune responses. Upon binding flagellin, TLR5 initiates intracellular signaling via the adaptor protein MyD88, leading to activation of NF-κB and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Dysregulation of TLR5 is implicated in inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, bone loss, and various cancers. TLR5 is a therapeutic target for cancer immunotherapy.
