Toll-like receptor 6 (TLR6) is a pattern recognition receptor and a member of the toll-like receptor family. It functions as a heterodimer with TLR2 to recognize diacylated lipopeptides from various pathogens, including Gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasma, fungi, and protozoa. Upon ligand binding, TLR6 initiates intracellular signaling cascades, leading to the activation of NF-kB and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby playing a critical role in innate immunity and inflammatory responses. Its involvement in inflammatory diseases and potential as a target in cancer immunotherapy are under investigation.
TLR6 agonists stimulate the TLR2/TLR6 heterodimer, leading to MyD88-dependent NF-kB activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production.
