Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) is an endosomal receptor that plays a critical role in the innate immune system by recognizing single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) from viruses. Upon activation by viral ssRNA or synthetic agonists, TLR7 initiates a signaling cascade through MyD88, leading to the activation of IRF7 and NF-κB, and the production of type I interferons and proinflammatory cytokines. TLR7 is implicated in autoimmune diseases and sepsis pathogenesis, making it a potential therapeutic target.
