DNA Gyrase/Topoisomerase IV (Bacterial) (N/A)

Target
N/A
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Topoisomerase, Type II Topoisomerase
01

Overview

DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV are type II topoisomerases found in bacteria, essential for managing DNA topology during replication and cell division. DNA gyrase introduces negative supercoils and removes positive supercoils ahead of the replication fork. Topoisomerase IV decatenates interlinked daughter chromosomes and relaxes positive supercoils behind the replication fork. Both enzymes are heterotetramers and are targeted by quinolone antibiotics.
