Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) refers to the aggregate ability of all antioxidants present in a sample—such as blood plasma, serum, tissue extracts, food products—to neutralize reactive oxygen species or other oxidants. It does not represent an individual molecule or receptor but rather quantifies the cumulative effect of both enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants present in the system.
