Bacterial Toxins (Adsorption)

Molecular classification
Toxin, Protein, Peptide
01

Overview

Bacterial toxins are diverse molecules produced by bacteria that can cause damage to host tissues or disrupt normal cellular processes. Adsorption, in this context, refers to the process by which these toxins are bound or sequestered onto surfaces—either biological (such as cell membranes) or non-biological materials (such as adsorbents used for detoxification). Adsorption is primarily mediated through electrostatic interactions, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic effects, and specific binding between functional groups on the toxin and the adsorbent surface. The efficiency of adsorption depends on factors such as surface area, porosity, and chemical properties of the adsorbent material as well as environmental conditions like pH and ionic strength.
