Overview

TPTE2 pseudogene 3 (TPTE2P3) is a pseudogene related to the transmembrane phosphoinositide 3-phosphatase and tensin homolog 2 (TPTE2) gene. Pseudogenes are genetic sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional due to disabling mutations or lack of regulatory elements. There is no evidence that TPTE2P3 encodes a protein or has any established biological function, disease association, or relevance as a therapeutic target. Some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles or be implicated in disease, but no such associations are known or reported for TPTE2P3. TPTE2 is a protein-coding gene, encoding a phosphoinositide phosphatase possibly involved in metabolism and signal transduction pathways. By contrast, TPTE2 pseudogene 3 is one of multiple pseudogenes derived from TPTE2, which are non-functional relics in the genome. Large numbers of pseudogenes are present in the phosphatase gene family, including up to 9 pseudogenes for TPTE2, but only rare pseudogenes (such as PTENP1) have known regulatory roles. As a pseudogene, it is not a protein, receptor, or enzyme, and is not therapeutically targeted.
