TPTE2 pseudogene 4 (TPTE2P4) is a member of the TPTE2 gene family but lacks a protein-coding function, classified as a pseudogene. Unlike protein-coding TPTE2, which acts as a membrane-associated phosphoinositide phosphatase with tumor suppressor-like activities, TPTE2P4 does not encode an active enzyme and has no established biological or clinical role. Pseudogenes may occasionally be transcribed, but typically do not produce functional protein, and are not considered viable molecular targets for therapy or diagnostics. If the intent was to find a functional protein target, TPTE2 or its splice variants ("transmembrane phosphoinositide 3-phosphatase and tensin homolog 2", abbreviated as TPTE2 or TPIP) would be the correct choice, not TPTE2P4.
