Trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) primarily activated by trace amines. It is a key modulator of monoaminergic neurotransmission, with significant roles in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral organs. TAAR1 regulates neurotransmitter systems by modulating dopaminergic, serotonergic, and glutamatergic signaling pathways. Activation of TAAR1 has antipsychotic-like effects and reduces rewarding/reinforcing properties of drugs, making it a potential therapeutic target for schizophrenia and addiction.
Modulates monoaminergic neurotransmission by activating Gs and Gq proteins, leading to changes in cyclic AMP levels and downstream signaling pathways. Activation can inhibit or fine-tune dopamine transmission.
