Tracheobronchial Sensory Nerve

Molecular classification
Peripheral afferent neuron, C-fiber afferent, Aδ fiber, Stretch receptor, Ion channels (TRPV1, TRPA1, TRPV4, ASICs), G protein-coupled receptors (Bradykinin B2, Neurokinin NK-1/NK-2)
01

Overview

Tracheobronchial sensory nerves are a network of afferent nerve fibers innervating the trachea and bronchi. They detect mechanical and chemical stimuli, playing a crucial role in maintaining lung health, regulating airway physiology, and mediating protective reflexes such as cough and bronchoconstriction. Subtypes include C-fibers, mechanically sensitive Aδ fibers, and stretch receptors, each expressing distinct receptors and ion channels like TRPV1, TRPA1, TRPV4, ASICs, Bradykinin B2, and Neurokinin NK-1/NK-2. Alterations in these pathways contribute to asthma, chronic cough, and COPD.
