Trans-Golgi network vesicle protein 23 homolog A (TVP23A) is a membrane protein encoded by the TVP23A gene and is associated with the Golgi apparatus, specifically the late (trans) Golgi compartments, where it has a crucial role in intracellular vesicular transport. TVP23A is involved in the delivery of secretory and membrane proteins to endosomes, lysosomes, or the plasma membrane. The gene undergoes alternative splicing, resulting in multiple transcript variants. It is functionally classified as a protein involved in vesicle trafficking rather than as a conventional therapeutic target, such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel. Mutations or dysregulation of the gene have been associated with diseases like atrial septal defect 3 and late-onset Parkinson’s disease.
