Overview

Transcribed ultra-conserved region 110 RNA (TUC110), also known as uc.110, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from a genomic segment that is 100% conserved between human, mouse, and rat species (Calin et al., 2007, Cancer Cell). It belongs to the class of transcribed ultra-conserved regions (T-UCRs), which are increasingly recognized as critical regulators of gene expression and cellular homeostasis. TUC110 is significantly upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it acts as an oncogenic driver by promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis (Braconi et al., 2011, PNAS). Research has demonstrated that the knockdown of TUC110 using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) can effectively reduce tumor growth and induce cell death in cancer models. Although no clinical drugs currently target TUC110, its high conservation and specific expression in diseased tissues make it an attractive candidate for RNA-targeted therapies and a potential diagnostic biomarker (Sana et al., 2012, J Mol Med). The molecule's function is linked to the modulation of complex signaling networks, though its full range of protein and RNA interactions remains a subject of active investigation.
