Overview

Transcription elongation factor A like 2 (TCEAL2) is a nuclear phosphoprotein and a member of the TCEAL gene family, located on Xq22.1. It modulates transcription in a promoter context-dependent manner, contains transcription factor A domains, and is mainly localized to nuclear speckles and cytosol. TCEAL2 functions primarily in transcriptional regulation and is implicated as a tumor suppressor; it is downregulated in numerous malignancies, including ovarian and renal cancers. Its biological functions extend to synaptic vesicle localization, cognition, and axonal transport, and it binds tau protein as well as WW domains. TCEAL2 is positively associated with immune cell infiltration, particularly natural killer (NK) cells, and its methylation status serves as a biomarker for cancer prognosis. Disease associations include several cancers and amelogenesis imperfecta. Currently, there are no well-established drugs that directly target TCEAL2, nor defined mechanisms of action for such therapeutics[1][2][3].
