Overview

Transcription elongation factor A like 5 (TCEAL5) is a nuclear protein encoded on the X chromosome that belongs to the TCEAL/Transcription elongation factor A (SII)-like gene family, characterized by the presence of a BEX (brain expressed X-linked-like) domain[1][3]. TCEAL5 may be involved in the regulation of transcriptional elongation, based on family homology, but its precise molecular function remains unclear[1][3]. Experimental evidence in mouse models indicates that Tceal5 acts as a positive regulator of cell proliferation, with elevated expression in pituitary tumors and certain proliferative contexts[4]. Overexpression of Tceal5 in pituitary progenitor cells increases cell proliferation and may contribute to adenoma formation, suggesting a context-specific proto-oncogenic role[4]. No confirmed drugs are known to directly interact with TCEAL5, and it is not an established therapeutic target at this time.
