Transcription elongation factor A-like 8 (TCEAL8) is a member of the transcription elongation factor A (SII)-like gene family, which encodes nuclear phosphoproteins containing TFA domains thought to modulate transcription in a promoter context-dependent manner. TCEAL family proteins may influence the transcriptional output of various genes and could be involved in integrating transcriptional regulation with physiological processes such as neuronal excitability. TCEAL8 undergoes significant N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification in cancer (notably pancreatic cancer tissues), and its expression has been identified as a marker in malignant cells, possibly acting downstream of the RNA methyltransferase METTL3 pathway. There are currently no drugs known to interact directly with this protein, and its function as a therapeutic target remains unclear; it is primarily treated as a putative regulatory protein and possible biomarker, especially in cancer biology.
