Overview

Transcription elongation factor A protein-like 9 (TCEAL9) is a protein encoded by the TCEAL9 gene located on the X chromosome. It contains a domain similar to the transcription elongation factor A (SII)-related protein family and a WW domain that mediates protein-protein interactions, especially with polyproline ligands[1][3][6][10]. TCEAL9 may be involved in transcriptional regulation by acting as a WW domain-binding protein, suggesting a role in controlling gene expression[3][6][10]. Alternative splicing leads to multiple transcripts but a single protein isoform. Elevated expression of TCEAL9/WBP5 has been associated with poor prognosis in certain malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia, though it is not currently a validated therapeutic target[9]. No drugs are known to modulate TCEAL9 specifically, and its function is the subject of ongoing research.
