Transcription factor E2F5 is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors, which are critical regulators of the cell cycle and interact with tumor suppressor proteins. E2F5 contains evolutionarily conserved domains, including a DNA-binding domain, dimerization domain for interaction with DP proteins, and a transactivation domain. It primarily acts as a transcriptional regulator, activating or repressing genes required for cell proliferation and differentiation. E2F5 is distinct in that it interacts with tumor suppressor proteins p130 and p107 (but not pRB), and its expression and activity are regulated through post-translational modification such as phosphorylation. E2F5 dysregulation has been implicated in tumorigenesis and specific cancers, and it is essential for processes such as multiciliate cell differentiation and growth factor response[1][2][3][5].
