Target intelligence / Profile preview
The transfer factor receptor is a hypothetical or poorly characterized molecular target for Lawrence's transfer factor, a dialyzable leukocyte extract (DLE) that transfers cell-mediated immunity between individuals [4, 7]. Discovered by H. Sherwood Lawrence in the 1950s, transfer factors are small, low-molecular-weight peptides (approximately 3.5–6.0 kDa) that are believed to 'educate' the immune system by transferring antigen-specific memory from a donor to a recipient [1, 16]. While the exact molecular identity of the receptor remains uncharacterized, research suggests it is expressed on T lymphocytes and other immune cells, where it mediates the induction of delayed-type hypersensitivity and the production of cytokines such as interferon-gamma and interleukin-2 [2, 6]. Therapeutic applications of transfer factor extracts target this receptor to treat viral infections, certain cancers, and autoimmune disorders by modulating and balancing the immune response [3, 5]. Despite its long history of use as a dietary supplement and experimental therapy, the lack of a clearly identified receptor and standardized molecular composition remains a significant challenge in its clinical development and scientific validation [10, 16].
Modulation of cell-mediated immunity and transfer of antigen-specific memory via binding to uncharacterized receptors on immune cells, leading to cytokine production and T-cell activation.
