Overview

Transformer-2 protein homolog alpha (TRA2A) is a phosphorylated nuclear RNA-binding protein encoded by the human *TRA2A* gene[1][3]. It plays an essential role in the regulation of pre-mRNA splicing by binding to specific RNA sequences using its RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain and RS (arginine/serine-rich) domains[1][3][4][7]. TRA2A is a member of a family of splicing factors conserved from *Drosophila* to mammals and is important for alternative splicing, which generates diversity in protein products from single genes[2][3]. Dysregulation of factors like TRA2A is increasingly linked to pathological states, including specific cancer types[3]. TRA2A is predominantly described as a splicing factor, not a conventional drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter; thus, direct targeting by drugs, mechanisms of drug action, biomarker utility, or specific safety profiles have not been reported in the literature to date[3][7].
