Transforming acidic coiled-coil containing protein 3 pseudogene

Molecular classification

Overview

The transforming acidic coiled-coil containing protein 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000254498) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA with high sequence similarity to the functional TACC3 gene. Pseudogenes like this one typically result from ancient gene duplication or retrotransposition events and contain mutations that prevent them from encoding a functional protein. Unlike TACC3, which contributes to mitotic spindle function and has been associated with tumorigenesis, the pseudogene does not have known biological functions, therapeutic relevance, or interact with drugs. Its main relevance is as a genomic artifact, occasionally complicating genetic analyses due to sequence similarity to the active gene[1][2][6].
