Overview

ALK5 is a serine/threonine kinase that acts as a type I receptor for the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. It plays a critical role in developmental processes like neurogenesis and skeletogenesis, as well as angiogenesis. In cancer, ALK5 signaling can have opposing roles, suppressing tumors in early stages but promoting progression in advanced stages. It is therefore a therapeutic target, with small molecule inhibitors under development.

Mechanism of action
