Transient Receptor Potential Canonical 4 (TRPC4)

Target
TRPC4
Molecular classification
Ion channel, TRP channel, Non-selective cation channel
01

Overview

Transient receptor potential canonical 4 (TRPC4) is a non-selective cation channel that belongs to the canonical subfamily of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels. It plays crucial roles in various physiological processes, particularly in calcium signaling pathways. TRPC4 is expressed in various tissues and cell types, including brain regions, intestinal cells of Cajal, adrenal glands, kidneys, smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. It contributes to phospholipase C-dependent Ca²⁺ entry into cells following stimulation of G protein-coupled receptors and receptor tyrosine kinases. TRPC4 has been implicated in cardiovascular and neurological disorders and could potentially serve as a therapeutic target.
