Transient Receptor Potential Canonical Ion Channel (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Ion channel, TRP channel, Cation channel
01

Overview

Transient receptor potential canonical (TRPC) channels are a subfamily of non-selective cation channels that mediate the influx of calcium and sodium ions in response to various stimuli. They are involved in diverse cellular processes including sensory perception, cardiac function, and cell migration, making them potential therapeutic targets for diseases like cardiovascular disease and cancer. Activation occurs through physical stimuli (mechanical stretch, temperature), chemical signals (pH, ROS), and G-protein-coupled receptor signaling. The channels function as tetramers, with each subunit containing six transmembrane segments. Several small molecule modulators have been identified as potential preclinical drug candidates.
