01

Overview

TRPM7 is a unique bifunctional protein combining an ion channel with an intrinsic serine/threonine kinase. It functions as a nonselective cation channel permeable to Mg²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Ca²⁺, and its kinase domain modulates various signaling pathways. TRPM7 plays essential roles in embryonic development, divalent cation balance, immune responses, cell mobility, proliferation, differentiation, and neuronal/cardiovascular function. Dysregulation is implicated in hypomagnesemia, seizures, developmental delay, cancer, neuronal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and immune dysfunctions, making it a potential drug target.
