Overview

Transient receptor potential (TRP) channel modulators are compounds that influence the activity of TRP channels, a superfamily of cation-permeable ion channels found in many tissues and cell types. These modulators can either enhance (agonists) or inhibit (antagonists) the function of TRP channels, thereby affecting their physiological roles. TRP channels act as cellular sensors for a wide range of physical and chemical stimuli and play key roles in sensory perception, regulation of vascular tone, and cell signaling pathways. Due to their central role in sensory physiology and disease processes, TRP channels are considered attractive drug targets. Several small molecules targeting these receptors are under investigation for therapeutic use against conditions such as neuropathic pain or vascular disorders.
