Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) is a nonselective cation channel that is permeable to Ca²⁺ and other cations. It plays key roles in various physiological processes and disease states, including osmoregulation, mechanotransduction, and pain perception. It is activated by osmotic changes, mechanical forces, chemical ligands, and warm temperatures. Mutations or dysregulation of TRPV4 are linked with several diseases, including skeletal dysplasias and neuropathies.
