Target intelligence / Profile preview

Transient receptor potential vanilloid subfamily 1 (TRPV1)

Target
TRPV1
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channel, Nonselective cation channel
01

Overview

TRPV1 is a nonselective cation channel and a member of the transient receptor potential (TRP) channel family, specifically the vanilloid subfamily. It is primarily involved in the detection of noxious heat (>43°C), acidic conditions (low pH), capsaicin, and other stimuli. Activation of TRPV1 leads to pain sensation, inflammation, and other physiological responses. It is a therapeutic target for chronic pain and other diseases.

Capsaicin receptorVanilloid receptor 1
02

Mechanism of action

Activation leads to opening of the channel pore, allowing influx of cations (Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+), resulting in depolarization of sensory neurons and transmission of pain signals.
