Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid Type 1 Channel (TRPV1)

Target
TRPV1
Molecular classification
Ion channel, TRP channel, Receptor
01

Overview

The Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel is a non-selective cation channel that plays a central role in the detection and transduction of noxious stimuli, including heat, low pH (acidity), and various chemical ligands such as capsaicin. TRPV1 is widely recognized for its function in pain sensation (nociception) and thermoregulation.

02

Mechanism of action

Activation leads to influx of cations (Ca2+, Na+) and depolarization of sensory neurons, initiating action potentials. Antagonists block the channel and prevent cation influx.
