Translation machinery associated 16 homolog pseudogene 1 (TMA16P1) is a genomic locus with high sequence similarity to a functional protein-coding gene involved in cellular translational machinery, but with sequence mutations, insertions, or deletions that prevent translation into a functional protein[1]. Like other pseudogenes, it may theoretically regulate its parental or homologous gene’s expression by acting as a competing endogenous RNA that binds microRNAs, though this specific function has not been validated for TMA16P1[2][3]. Pseudogenes are a class of genomic elements increasingly recognized for potential regulatory and disease relevance[2][3], yet TMA16P1 does not currently have direct evidence for a disease or biomarker role, nor for interaction with drugs or adverse safety implications.
