Overview

Translation regulatory long non-coding RNA 1 (TRERNA1) is a non-protein-coding RNA transcript classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)[1][4]. It is associated with the regulation of gene expression at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, including the modulation of translation and epigenetic regulation. TRERNA1 has been shown to be upregulated in several cancers such as colorectal, gastric, and hepatic carcinoma, where it promotes invasion, metastasis, and poor prognosis, likely through the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition and interactions affecting transcription factors such as Snail[1]. In ovarian physiology, TRERNA1 can act as a microRNA sponge (notably for miR-23a), thereby suppressing granulosa cell apoptosis[3]. It is emerging as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target, but currently has no direct drug interactions described. Key challenges for its therapeutic targeting are consistent with those for lncRNAs in general, including issues related to molecular delivery and specificity[1][3][4].
