Pseudogenes arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition but typically accumulate mutations that prevent protein expression or function, and as such, they are not explored as therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or drug interactors. TIMM8BP2 should not be confused with the active gene TIMM8B or TIMM8A, both of which are functional mitochondrial protein importers involved in critical mitochondrial processes ([4]).
