TOMM20 pseudogene 2 (TOMM20P2) is a processed pseudogene derived from the parental TOMM20 gene, which encodes a mitochondrial outer membrane receptor involved in protein import into mitochondria[6][5]. Unlike the functional TOMM20 gene, TOMM20P2 does not produce an active protein and is considered non-functional. Pseudogenes such as TOMM20P2 may result from evolutionary duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that prevent them from performing the biological activities of their parental gene[5][6]. There are no reported biological functions, disease involvements, or therapeutic applications for TOMM20P2.
