Overview
Translocase of Outer Mitochondrial Membrane 34 (TOMM34) is a protein involved in the import of precursor proteins into mitochondria. It acts as a chaperone-like molecule, binding to unfolded proteins and facilitating their import. TOMM34 is primarily cytoplasmic but can associate with the outer mitochondrial membrane. It contains six tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) motifs and exhibits weak ATPase activity. High expression levels of TOMM34 have been associated with increased cell proliferation and modulation of mitochondrial function in certain cancers.
