The translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 40 homolog pseudogene (TOMM40P; ENSG00000278594) is a non-protein-coding sequence in the human genome that is homologous to the functional TOMM40 gene, which encodes the channel-forming subunit of the mitochondrial translocase complex[2][3]. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are usually nonfunctional due to mutations, deletions, or lack of regulatory elements. This particular pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a molecular target for therapeutics or biomarkers.
