Overview

Transmembrane and coiled-coil domain-containing protein 5A (TMCO5A) is a protein encoded by the TMCO5A gene located on chromosome 15 in humans[7][8]. It is predicted to be a structural, membrane-associated protein with localization primarily in the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear membranes[8], and is notably expressed at high levels in the cytoplasm of spermatids, suggesting a specialized role in testicular tissue[5]. While genetic associations link the gene to prostate cancer and spastic paraplegia 11, there is no direct evidence indicating TMCO5A is a common therapeutic target, nor are there any approved drugs or mechanisms of action described for this molecule[1]. Its molecular function appears related to protein binding and possible structural maintenance, and it is not currently classified within major drug target families such as ion channels, GPCRs, or receptors.
