Transmembrane and coiled-coil domain-containing protein 5B (TMCO5B) is annotated as a pseudogene in humans, meaning it is a segment of DNA that has sequence similarity to protein-coding genes but does not encode a functional protein under physiological conditions[3][9]. Its mouse ortholog (Tmco5) encodes a protein localized to spermatids and implicated in vesicle transport along the manchette, suggesting a developmental role in spermatogenesis in rodent testis[1][2]. However, in humans, there is no evidence for expression as a functional protein, for roles in cellular processes, or for therapeutic targeting. TMCO5B is not involved in drug action, clinical biomarkers, or disease mechanisms, and is generally excluded from therapeutic target databases[3][9][13].
