Transmembrane p24 trafficking protein 10 pseudogene 1 (TMED10P1), also referred to as Tmp21-II, is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome[1][2]. Unlike its functional counterpart, TMED10 (Transmembrane p24 trafficking protein 10), TMED10P1 does not encode an active transmembrane protein and does not participate in protein vesicular trafficking, signal transduction, or serve as a receptor or enzyme[1][2][5][6]. The TMED10 protein itself is a well-characterized member of the EMP24/GP25L/p24 family involved in ER-Golgi transport and is associated with physiological and disease processes including Alzheimer's disease; however, TMED10P1 is non-functional and lacks any direct roles in cellular function or disease[5][6][3]. For therapeutic or mechanistic questions, the correct target is the functional TMED10 protein, not TMED10P1. TMED10P1 is a gene artifact without protein product or biological activity in humans[1][2][5].
