Overview

Transmembrane protein 102 (TMEM102) is a single-pass membrane protein located at the cell surface and is involved in intracellular signaling processes. Specifically, TMEM102 plays a role in the regulation of mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization—an essential step in the intrinsic apoptotic pathway—and is selectively involved in apoptosis induced by colony stimulating factor 2 (CSF2) deprivation, highlighting a mitochondria-dependent mechanism. It also participates in cellular responses to cytokines and in processes like T cell migration and cell adhesion, indicating involvement in immune regulation. TMEM102 is not recognized as a classical drug target (such as a receptor, transporter, or enzyme), and no drugs targeting this protein have been reported in public sources. TMEM102 has alternative names (CBAP, D2B, etc.) but there is no evidence of widespread use of these compared to "TMEM102".
