Overview

Transmembrane protein 125 (TMEM125) is a human protein encoded by the TMEM125 gene located on chromosome 1p34.2. It is predicted to have four transmembrane domains and is highly conserved across vertebrate species. TMEM125 is expressed in multiple tissues, including the lungs, thyroid, pancreas, intestines, spinal cord, brain, and other organs. Its precise molecular function is currently unknown, but current studies suggest it may act as a cell adhesion molecule in oligodendrocytes, potentially contributing to neuron myelination. Recent research indicates that TMEM125 is involved in regulatory networks associated with lung and colorectal cancer, and its expression may be linked to changes in cell proliferation, immune response, and epigenetic modification in lung adenocarcinoma. Although it is included in cancer prognostic gene signatures, no direct interactions with drugs or defined therapeutic roles have been reported. No verified small-molecule ligands, inhibiting drugs, or actionable mechanisms of action have been established for TMEM125 to date.
