Transmembrane protein 130 (TMEM130) is a protein encoded by the TMEM130 gene in humans, located on chromosome 7. It is a multi-pass membrane protein predicted to be localized to the plasma membrane and the Golgi apparatus[1][5]. TMEM130 is a protein-coding gene found in a wide range of mammalian tissues, with expression in the central nervous system, endocrine tissues, and various organs as detected in transcriptomic analyses[8][9]. Currently, no specific molecular function or canonical biological process has been experimentally validated in the literature. Altered methylation of the TMEM130 promoter is associated with cancer development, particularly in gastric and breast cancer, suggesting a potential role as a biomarker or in pathogenesis, but no drugs are known to directly target TMEM130[11][13][5]. The gene has also been associated with differentiating neuroblastoma and amyloidosis, but its mechanistic involvement in disease remains unclear[5]. There are no established safety concerns or therapeutic challenges related to direct targeting of TMEM130.
